Trace Remick

Trace grew up in metro Detroit and got his start writing code in the Neopets layout editor, tinkering with how pages were built long before he knew people did it for a living. That hobby eventually turned into a career, and he has spent the years since working as a software engineer.

Like a lot of people, Trace worked from home through COVID. When it ended, he found that the friendships and everyday social contact he'd taken for granted hadn't survived it, and rebuilding them turned out to be harder than expected. That experience led him to start studying why adult friendship and community had become so difficult, and eventually to build companies around the problem.

Today he runs Easydeck, whose holding company Relational Infrastructure houses a family of businesses building tools and systems that help people form relationships and participate in their communities. His current products include Eventure, an event discovery platform, and this site's Field Guide, a practical how-to covering ideas like social capital and third places alongside everyday practices like becoming a regular and making the ask.

He writes regularly on the blog here about relationships, community building, and designing technology that supports real life instead of replacing it. He lives in Metro Detroit.
